TRUMPINGTON
Guided Busway

Tackling the issue of pedestrian crossing in light of the movement disruption in Trumpinton caused by the guided busway in south Cambridge.

Further concerns on safety raised by the city council indicate a higher than average accident rate on the guided busway than on other transport routes.

SITE

Guided busway

There's an increasing feeling of isolation along the walk by the Trumpington busway from a pedestrian perspective. As one walks along the path there's a topographical shift deepening the height difference to the closest residential blocks. The pedestrian crosses over a kilometre without being given an opportunity to change their path.

Permeability

Considering the existing points of access as a pedestrian adjacent to the busway, as well as the bus stops' distribution.

Chosen
site

Choosing a site by looking at access necessity and availability of connecting paths.

Proposing a passage across the busway for pedestrian crossing on the point that is furthest from the existing ones. The passage is to be covered and create an opportunity for a bus stop.

As the cause of most accidents since 2016 across the busway has been declared to be an excessive speed of the bus, an additional bus stop would allow for less acceleration time in what is presently the longest tract without a stop.
